Chris Hay has over 35 years’ experience in the Australian Timber and Manufacturing Industries, with experience in:

  • forest establishment and harvesting,

  • sawlog conversion,

  • timber treatment,

  • timber marketing, sales and distribution and

  • truss and frame manufacture.

He has a keen interest in sustainable development and community engagement.

Chris has been through the cycles of market demand and understands the key elements to make businesses profitable.  During this time he has developed strong team structures, above industry standard safety performance and managed businesses to perform based on the market environment.  His most recent achievements include;

​

  • Managing the expansion of Northside Trusses and Frames to be one of the largest truss and frame businesses in Australia. Employee numbers increased from 80 to 130 with significant improvements in productivity.  The business received the TABMA award for the best Truss and Frame business nationally in 2014.

  • Halving Workers Compensation premiums over a 5 year period. This achievement was acknowledged by Workcover Queensland in the article available at: https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au/manufacturing/case-studies/strong-safety-culture-drives-down-premiums-at-ntf

  • Applying for and receiving grants from both the Federal and State Governments to introduce innovative manufacturing systems.

Chris’s academic record includes;

  • Bachelor of Science (Forestry) – Australian National University

  • Master of Commerce (Finance and Economics) – Curtin University

  • Master of Marketing (Logistics) – Monash University

​

He is also a Member of the Institute of Foresters of Australia and a Member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors.
